SIU Clinical Handbook 2026-27: Content Test Addendum

Purpose of This Addendum

This addendum serves as an official update to the SIU Clinical Experience Handbook (2026–2027). Following the publication of this handbook, the policy and timeline regarding the completion of the state-mandated content area test have been updated.

• To graduate with a degree in the programs that lead to initial licensure, all teacher candidates are now required to have at least one official attempt at the appropriate Illinois Licensure Testing System (ILTS) Content Area Test corresponding to their specific discipline and grade range prior to graduation.
• To qualify for a Professional Educator License (PEL) in the state of Illinois, all teacher candidates must successfully pass the appropriate Illinois Licensure Testing System (ILTS) Content Area Test corresponding to their specific discipline and grade range.

Note: If you do not meet licensure requirements at the time of graduation you will need to contact the TEP Office at tep@siu.edu once all licensure requirements are met. To ensure you are licensable, you are advised to meet all requirements within one year of graduation. Failure to do so may result in ISBE licensure changes and additional courses being required.
