The Places You Could Go
The Teacher Education Program (TEP) is committed to providing rich, diverse, and authentic classroom experiences while supporting both school communities and teacher candidate development. Candidates have opportunities to complete their hands-on instructional experiences in a wide variety of settings, as the TEP partners with dozens of schools across the region, including districts in Belleville, Central Illinois, and the suburban Chicago area. As the program continues to expand its network of partner schools and clinical sites each year, candidates benefit from increased placement options, stronger community partnerships, and access to high-quality learning environments that prepare them to thrive in today’s classrooms.
To ensure a structured and supportive experience, the TEP utilizes a Clinical Supervision Hub Model aligned with licensure program standards and practices. Candidates are typically placed within a designated hub and assigned a university clinical supervisor who brings extensive knowledge of the school community and provides in-person supervision and support. For candidates placed in schools outside of established hubs, supervision is provided remotely by a university-assigned clinical supervisor. While the TEP strives to maintain consistency in the established supervision model for each school, circumstances may occasionally require a transition from in-person to remote clinical supervision.

Out-of-State Clinicals
Out-of-state clinical placements require careful review to ensure compliance with federal regulations and state-specific professional licensure requirements. Because teacher education programs lead to professional licensure, Southern Illinois University Carbondale must determine whether its program meets the educational requirements for teacher licensure in the state where a candidate will complete their clinical experience. Prior to approving an out-of-state placement, the university must verify the licensure status of the program in that state and ensure all required disclosures and attestations are completed when applicable. Additionally, candidates should be aware that state licensing boards may impose requirements beyond degree completion, such as specific clinical experiences, examinations, background checks, or other criteria. Compliance with these regulations helps protect candidates' eligibility for future licensure and employment while ensuring the university remains in accordance with federal and state requirements.
