– The Physical Exam must be done within one year of your student teaching semester. The physical exam is required for all student teachers as “evidence of physical fitness to perform duties assigned and freedom from communicable disease.” (105 ILCS 5/24-5) Physical exams may be conducted at Health Services in the Rec Center, or with a physician of your choosing. MAKE YOUR APPOINTMENT IN ADVANCE IN ORDER TO BE SEEN BEFORE THE DEADLINE.
– Before you will be eligible to student teach, you must pass the Content Area Test(s) required for your major, and scores must be visible in your ELIS account. If you are unsure which test you should take, check Content Area Tests attachment. You may forward the PDF email sent by ILTS (your official score report) to tep@siu.edu. All student teachers are mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect.
Certificate of Completion must be dated within a year of the start of student teaching.

– Students are responsible for completing fingerprinting/background checks with the district in which they are placed for student teaching. Be sure to contact the district and set up the fingerprinting/background check as soon as you receive your placement.
