  • Fingerprinting/Background check

– Students are responsible for completing fingerprinting/background checks with the district and/or Regional Office of Education in which they are placed for student teaching. Be sure to contact the district of your student teaching placement and set up the fingerprinting/background check as soon as possible. The TEP does not require the results of the background check to be submitted to us.

  • PHYSICAL EXAM, INCLUDING TB TEST

Physical Form and TB Test

– The Physical Exam must be done within one year of your student teaching semester. The physical exam is required for all student teachers as “evidence of physical fitness to perform duties assigned and freedom from communicable disease.” (105 ILCS 5/24-5) Physical exams may be conducted at Health Services in the Rec Center, or with a physician of your choosing. MAKE YOUR APPOINTMENT IN ADVANCE IN ORDER TO BE SEEN BEFORE THE DEADLINE.

  • MANDATED REPORTER TRAINING

All student teachers are mandated reporters of child abuse and neglect.

Certificate of Completion must be dated within a year of the start of student teaching.

  • CONTENT AREA TESTS

– Before graduating, you must attempt the Content Area Test(s) required for your major, and the attempt must be visible in your ELIS account. If you are unsure which test you should take, please review the Content Area Tests attachment. You may forward the PDF email sent by ILTS (your official score report) to tep@siu.edu. As you register for your content test, request that your scores be sent to Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Please note that while a content test attempt is required prior to graduation, a passing content test score is required for licensure eligibility. Candidates who do not earn a passing score will graduate from the program but will not be entitled to educator licensure until the testing requirement has been successfully completed.
