Program Effectiveness

Our Educator Preparation Program ensures that all candidates continue to meet the highest standards of the State and of the respective professions. As a unit we gather data on all aspects of our programs and use them for continuous improvement that is sustained and evidence-based, to establish priorities, and to provide quality assurance to our candidates, our professions, accrediting bodies and the greater community.

We collect and analyze data on applicant qualifications, candidate and graduate performance, and unit operations to evaluate and improve the performance of candidates, as well as the unit and its programs. Continuous improvement of the unit is achieved through ongoing assessment of content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, professional dispositions, and impact on P-12 student learning. The expectations for candidates are based on the SIU mission and strategic plan, the School of Education Conceptual Framework, Specialty Professional Association (SPA) standards and student learning outcomes, the CAEP standards and those of the Higher Learning Commission and other accrediting agencies, and standards approved by the Illinois State Board of Education.
