Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)

All initial teacher education programs at Southern Illinois University Carbondale are fully accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and approved by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). Spanning the entire university, the Teacher Education Program is administered through the School of Education and includes majors from the School of Education, the College of Agricultural, Life, and Physical Science, the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Engineering, Computing, Technology, and Mathematics, and the College of Health and Human Sciences. Teacher education programs approved by the Illinois State Board of Education are offered at the undergraduate level in early childhood education, elementary education, special education, secondary education, and in majors and minors that lead to the special certificate or an endorsement to teach K-12 art, music, physical education, and foreign languages.

Accreditation is important to the School of Education because it ensures that programs attained critical levels that meet or exceed standards developed by experts in the field. The School of Education as a whole is currently accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
