Advisory Board of Teacher Education (ABTE)
The SOE values the collaboration and support of our P-12 school partners to ensure that high-quality clinical practice is central to our educator preparation programs.
The Advisory Board for Teacher Education consists of unit faculty as well as P-12 teachers and administrators and meets three times a year to discuss and share responsibility for continuous improvement of our candidate preparation.
The Board is involved in the analysis of multiple measures of candidate progress and complete achievements to evaluate programs, make recommendations for improvement, and identify models of excellence.

Program Improvement and Assessment Committee (PIAC)
PIAC is composed of Program Coordinators and other representative faculty from every Teacher Education major offered in the School of Education and four colleges: Agricultural, Life, and Physical Sciences; Arts and Media; Engineering, Computing, Technology, and Mathematics; and Liberal Arts. PIAC has designed and implemented a comprehensive assessment system and agreed upon data collection methods for CAEP accreditation and Illinois State Board of Education program compliance. PIAC has shared responsibility for the Conceptual Framework underlying Teacher Education at SIU; for the values, commitments and behaviors we expect of our teacher candidates; for how we plan to assess those values, commitments, and behaviors in all Teacher Education courses and in the schools; and for how to monitor the effectiveness of the assessment system.
