Dr. Christie McIntyre

Christie McIntyre

Dr. McIntyre is also the Associate Director, Program Review and Assessment, and Associate Professor in Curriculum and Instruction.

Her teaching areas are Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Teacher Leadership, and Literacy, and research interests include teacher development, assessment for student learning (Pre-K to College), and applications of constructivism. She is currently engaged in a longitudinal study of pre-service teachers’ constructions of becoming teachers, and she is working on a collective case study that is documenting how two teachers are applying constructivism in their classrooms. Dr. McIntyre has been invited to share her work related to assessments of teacher candidates at local, state, and national conferences. She has served on college level and university level assessment committees. As the advisor of educ8kdz, she has led two service learning trips to New Orleans, where teacher candidates have worked in schools and child care centers impacted by hurricanes in that area. She also assists the educ8kdz members in local projects that support young children.

Stephen Poggendorf
Clinical Placement Coordinator

Stephen has responsibilities related to clinical experiences and program completion for all initial teaching licensure programs. His responsibilities include coordinating placement of all teacher candidates in multiple clinical practice sites, maintaining a current data base of clinical sites and cooperating teachers, and monitoring teacher candidates’ progression through their clinical preparation courses and experiences.

Toni assists program participants as they fulfill licensure and testing requirements, supporting teacher candidates from program acceptance through student teaching.

Melanye Merryll
Licensure Coordinator

In addition to advising Secondary Education and Foreign Languages majors in the College of Education and Human Services, Melanye works directly with the Director and Licensure Officer to provide training and support to current SIU teacher candidates and program alumni. As Licensure Coordinator, Melanye is committed to supporting each teacher candidate as they meet all Illinois State Board of Education licensure requirements.
